Hey, It's Halloween

Yes, it's that time of year again.  We hardly ever even get Trick or Treaters anymore, not a lot of kids in our neighborhood it seems.  That's ok, my grown-up kids are still going to parties, and getting dressed up and doing their thing.

But you are supposed to have scary things at Halloween.  And this was one of the scariest I could find.

 photo testicleteeth_zps64ed4703.jpg

Now that conjures up a horrible mental image!

Farewell Zilius Zox, you will be missed.

Stuff I Bought

Ah, the dreaded fifth week of the month.  Although I have to admit that this week wasn't bad really.  Rather a surprise. I have been feeling dreadfully jaded about my comics lately.

Multiversity #1

I...think?  This actually came out last week, and I passed it up because I didn't know what it even was.  I still am finding this to be quite confusing, but that is the sort of thing that goes along with a Grant Morrison book. Still, it was interesting, to see some characters that haven't been around in a very very long time.

On this earth, Superman wiped out all crime, and all problems are taken care of by his super robots or something, so the second generation of Super Heroes haven't much to do, except do reenactments of old battles, which is rather depressing.  Also they party a lot.  And the thing about the haunted or cursed Comic Book continues here, with it being a portal or something.

I am sure it will all make sense eventually.

Justice League United Annual

This wasn't bad.  Nice artwork.  I found the  constant zipping back and forth of Alanna and Adam to be rather amusing.  The Legion shows up from the future and wants to kill off the weird little kid before he grows up to be an intergalactic menace, and naturally the League is defending him, while some of them are off trying to find Hawkman's corpse, except he's alive again and brainwashed, and it all comes together at the end.

Ollie and Kara aren't seeing eye to eye.  He should talk to Guy perhaps.

I'm actually liking this better than the regular League.

Sensation Comics: Wonder Woman #3

Gosh, this is fabulous.  Pay no attention whatsoever to the bloody cover, it has nothing to do with the interior, which consists of several adorable tales, and adorable artwork.

We have Bullets and Bracelets, with Diana as a rock star more or less, and a bit of empowerment for young girls, and a well-deserved comeuppance to an obnoxious boor.  Woohoo!

Then an extremely tired and desperate for coffee Wonder Woman has to outwit Catwoman AND fight a rather nice dragon.  Selina is very smart...but not quite smart enough.  This was actually my favorite, because I like dragons.

And finally a continuing saga of an extremely muscular Wonder Woman fighting an alien.  Kanjar Ro comes into it, and I have a sneaking fondness for Kanjar Ro.  Lots and lots and lots of fun!

God, I do love fun.

Sinestro #6

Sinestro and his corps have been beaten up by Becca and the thugs from the New Gods, and he's a bit...smitten.  Oh Sinestro.  You're as bad as Hal sometimes.  He sends some of his corps out to fight on the Indigo world, incidentally saving the Indigos and John Stewart and his band of Green Lanterns.  They catch the New Gods by surprise, and actually pull out a victory, but only at the cost of sacrificing some of the Yellow Corps, which Sinestro justifies by winnowing out the chaff..

So now all the corps are more or less united against the New Gods, who continue to disgust me.  Also we got to see Dispotellis again, and Sinestro's use of him as a spy was pretty inspired.  So I like it a lot.

Wonder Woman #35

And I guess this is the end of the Azarello/Chiang version of Wonder Woman, but it certainly ends with a bang.  And I did...not see that coming.  I probably should have, but still.

I know that this version of Wonder Woman wasn't everyone's cup of tea, what with the new parentage, and the whole Amazon slaughter stuff.  But if I had to have an alternate version of Wonder Woman, this was pretty damned fabulous.  I loved all the gods, and the unique and innovative ways that Chiang presented them.

Diana, Zola and Zeke, and Hermes end up at Mount Olympus only to be confronted by Poseidon, who is making a last minute power grab.  And suddenly Zola of all people starts to manifest some rather...interesting powers, growing what appears to be a pretty potent talon and slicing off some of Poseidon's tentacles.  Then First Born shows up with his Minotaur in tow, and there is a lot of fighting.  Eris shows up and I have to admit that I really like Eris.  She's just so...catty.  But funny.

Diana is down, and First Born wants the Minotaur to kill her, but it turns out that waaaaay back when Ares was training her as a young girl, she spared this very same Minotaur, and he remembers, to First Born's disgust. He has to take time from his plan to throw Zola and Zeke into the bottomless abyss to come over and kill the Minotaur himself, which really pisses off Diana, and the bracelets Are Off!  And she starts to really go to town.

Meanwhile Zola has managed to put baby Zeke onto Zeus's throne.  And Kablaaaaamooo!  First Born falls into the Abyss instead, and for a second you think that Diana is going to save him.  But she's not stupid, and into the abyss he goes!  So he'll have time to think about his evil ways or something.

And guess what? Zola is actually Athena!  And Zeke is actually a reborn Zeus!  That's quite a trick!  Athena is all set to become a goddess again, when Diana convinces her that little baby Zeus needs a mama, so Athena is still around, but not Zola anymore, and there is a more or less happy ending.

I needed a happy ending, I really did.

Next month I believe that the Finches are going to be taking over, and just from the artwork on the covers, I am already pretty sure that I'll be dropping this book. But it was sure fabulous for a while.

Saga #24

And speaking of fabulous!

We don't even see Hazel or Alana or our beloved bunch at all in this issue, which deals with the Will's sister trying to find him, and figure out what happened to him.  She tracks him to Heist's old hang-out, and meets the cutest little herder guy who rather resembles a baby fur seal, except cuter.  The Brand is the Will's sister, and she has a dog named Sweet Boy.  She does realize that Alana and her family had been there, and manages to get on the trail of Sophie and Gwendolyn, who are off doing their own thing, trying to find a cure for the Will.  They run into some REALLY disgusting guards, but hold their own, and hey...Lying Cat!  I love Lying Cat!

Then they run into the Brand, and there is naturally... a brief fight, and Lying Cat is knocked out,and eventually they stop fighting long enough to compare notes, and realize that they are more or less on the same side.  Meanwhile the Will is still in his coma, but having some really odd....dreams.

And back on Heist's place, who should show up but Yuma, from Alana's acting troupe, and it turns out she used to be married to Heist!  And with her, is Prince Robot and...Marko!

Be still my heart.

So a pretty decent week altogether.

Well That's Just Dandy

Dammit!

It's taken me a while, but the news that Marvel is going to be ending Charles Soule's run on She-Hulk with number twelve, just makes me angry.   I really love that book.  It's fun, and quirky and clever and fun.

Did I mention it's fun?

Can't have THAT sort of thing going on, now can we?

Maybe they will just bring out another Avengers book.  I think they are up to thirty-two or so by now.

Oh Guy

Nobody...with the possible exception of Pat Gleason can quite do a Gardner sneer the way that Kevin Maguire can.

I give you...

The bowl haircut and all.

Such a lovely lovely sneer.

Red Lanterns #35

Well, it's the aftermath of all of the mess with Atrocitus, and the decimation of the Red Lantern Corps, and Guy is currently hanging out back on Earth, feeling pretty depressed.  One of Guy's key character traits, is that you just can't keep him down...but losing most of his group...his friends...is a hard thing to bounce back from.

So he is chilling out on a beach in Dubai, with none other than Ice.  She can't understand at first why he just doesn't dump the red ring, but eventually realizes his motivations, and even keeps chilling his beer.  She's still not acting like sweet old Ice...but it's a start.  And it is only a coincidence of course, that the nation of Qurac is right across from Dubai, and the requisite lunatic leader has offered a billion dollar reward for super powers.  Because actually...that's a pretty reasonable motive, in the current DC Universe.

Apparently he has achieved those powers, because he has a giant statue of himself, and the usual ranting, until Guy shows up in Red Lantern form, to blow up his nice statue.  And it is...On!  And in the middle of their little donnybrook, who should show up, but the thugs from the New Gods.  And poor Guy, doesn't have a clue to who these bozos are, but is more than willing to issue them a beatdown as well.  Doesn't go as he plans however, and he has his bacon saved by none other than Simon Baz.

It was nice to see Simon again, and it's nice to see Guy getting along reasonably well with him. Simon fills him in on who exactly these intergalactic terrorists are, and the fight is on...again.  As usual, the New Gods seem to be winning, in an almost bored fashion, and are about to minister the coup de grace, when High Father summons them back home, and they leave a battered Simon and Guy...who naturally enough....is really really pissed.

I...am not really enjoying this whole Godhead Story Line.  As I recall...it is Darkseid and his goons who are supposed to be the Bad Guys.  I thought that the New Gods, were...the GOOD Guys!  Not in this Universe.  They may have altruistic motives...although I'm not really sure about that...but they are a bunch of cold-blooded killers and thieves.  I'm also a bit bummed by the fact that all of the various Corps have been so ineffectual against them.

Oh well.  This is still the best of the Lantern books, and it does have a shirtless Guy sitting on the beach drinking beer, so I'm happy.

Reviews

An unusually small week, but since there is a fifth week of comics this month, I suppose that would account for it.

Aquaman #35

Still hanging in there with this book.  The art is very pretty, and it is an interesting story.  Poor Arthur...Atlantis has earthquakes...or should that be seaquakes...everytime he wanders by, which has to be disconcerting.  He brings back good old Shin, and Dan Evans, so that they can come with him and do research.  Needless to say, they are both delighted.  Also, we got to see Salty the Sea Dog, which always makes me happy.

Arthur also deals with the rebels by taking them up to the surface, and then giving them their own colony, where they can sink or swim on their own.  It is a bit more merciful than just executing them.  And oh...incidentally, his mother's tomb is actually empty, which may be why he's having so many problems.  So things are being set up for a future story as well.

Not bad at all.

Batman '66 #16

And speaking of not bad!  In this episode, we have none other than Vincent Price as Egghead.  He has been experimenting on himself, and achieved a sort of super duper mind whammy, and manages to re-evolve the Dynamic Duo back to Cavemen.  This actually backfires a bit, because although they look like Neanderthals, they still have their brains, because as Batman points out, they may have been primitive, but not stupid.

Egghead, then scampers through Gotham hi-jacking other villains nefarious plans for his own.  Naturally, the Caped Crusaders find him, and trick him into returning them to their accustomed appearance, before snapping on the cuffs.  Oh, and also taking away his super mind powers.

Delightful.

Red Lanterns #35

Oh...Guy!

She-Hulk #9

I do enjoy this book.  Last issue, an old Captain America asked Jen to represent him in a lawsuit.  And oh, she's up against none other than Matt Murdock. It is a Civil Suit, that accuses Steve of being instrumental in the death of a young man years before, before he ever became Captain America.  Jen isn't happy going up against Matt, who is as usual, quite brilliant, and she's not really optimistic.  Cap won't let her try any courtroom tricks.

Then Matt shows up as Daredevil, and they go romping through the city, in order to clear out the cobwebs and the air.  It turns out that Cap went to Matt and asked him to take the case against him, since he still feels some guilt about the death of his friend.  I don't know how it is all going to end up, but I'm enjoying the ride!

What a nice little week!

I'm Back!

Back from the last Muster of the season, in beautiful beautiful Moodus, Ct.  The Fifes and Drums were doing their thing, the hard cider and beer was flowing, the leaves were gorgeous, and nothing exploded, nor were the local constabulatory called to the scene.  So a good weekend.  Time to put the old 'Bago away for the winter I guess.

So...did anything exciting happen in Comic Book Land?

I have no real reason to post this, other than it is by Kevin Maguire, and it makes me incredibly Happy.

So...perfect.

Not a bad week.  Not a fabulous week, but not a bad week.

Batgirl #35

I had dropped this earlier, but due to all the buzz I was going to pick it up again and see what all the hoopla was about.  And heck...it was cute.  Fun art, fun story, and a youthful but still on-the-ball Barbara.  Not sure why she and Black Canary are so mad at each other, since I have dropped Birds of Prey as well.

As an old lady, I am not particularly into all of the various media modes of communication.  I am not on Facebook, nor do I tweet or any of the the other stuff out there.  You're lucky I can figure out how to log onto the computer!  But still...it was a particularly clever method that she used to shut down the Bad Guy.

A lot of fun.  And fun is a rare commodity these days.

Batwoman #35

What the hell?  I didn't get the issue from September because having Kate as a vampire five years in the future didn't appeal to me, so I am completely lost as to why she is fighting Morgan Lefay in Spaaaace!  Did the vampire from a couple of issues ago turn into Morgan LeFay?  What the Hell?  Where did her buddies come from?

I didn't like this, I had no idea what was going on, and I am dropping it for good.

Batman & Robin #35

Now this I actually did like.  Batman has managed to get his fine old self all the way to Apokolips, via a stolen Mother Box.  He's just tearing up the place, and even confronting Glorious Godfey.  Meanwhile...back at the cave, Jason, Tim and Barbara have shown up and put all their differences aside, as they are wont to do.  I think Bruce hypnotizes them sometimes, I really do.  And with Alfreds help, they put on cool junior versions of Bat's new suit, all as Robins.

Awww.

And then they con poor Cyborg into coming to the cave, hooking up to fight some nebulous "menace" and end up stealing all his downloaded info on how to make another Mother Box...or something.  This is kind of a crappy thing to do, but hey, they have good intentions.  Naturally, Cyborg realizes what they are up to, and jumps through the Mother Box as well, so everyone is on Apokolips! Woohoo!

Also Kalibak is running around crying about how he loves Daddy.

This is a crazy book.  But a damn good book.

Fables #145

This is the final hurrah storyline for Fables, and some of my favorite characters are dropping right and left.  Bigby is back, but he's being controlled, and I think that whatsername is more or less the Dark Man at this point anyway.  Ozma and Beast were taken down last issue, and now Totenkinder is back with Rose, and they don't fare much better, although they do escape with their lives.  Snow White is pissed, and who can blame her?

I want a happy ending, dammit, but I'm not sure that I'm going to get one.

Justice League #35

God, the art is pretty in this, with Doug Mahnke and Ivan Reis sharing the honors, and Keith Champagne, whom I adore, doing the inking...along with some other people.

Lex is trying to convince everyone that he is a changed man, and that they can TRUST him now!  The Justice League has certain...reservations.  Also Bruce upstages Lex, which makes Lex a little pissy.  But he did promise to show Bruce ALL of his secrets...even the ones that he wasn't going to.  And we meet his sister, and find out that he's trying to clone another Bizzarro, and all of the rest of the league is stationed outside...just in case.

Then they are attacked by some unknown baddie, who is trying to take out Lex, but doesn't mind removing a few other Leaguers as well, if he gets paid more.  And oops...the Amazo Virus has been accidentally unleashed!

Really Lex, you should take better precautions.

Pretty good actually.

Daredevil #9

Oh, those adorable little purple kids, are something of a menace.  They don't just...persuade you like the Purple Man, they exude various emotions, and it is wreaking havoc across San Francisco.

Also, Matt is toying with the idea of joining Kirsten's Dad and publishing his memoirs...because it is a REALLY big paycheck!  But both Foggy and Kirsten point out that Matt may be a fabulous Lawyer and a fabulous Crimefighter...but he can't write to save his life...which I found to be amusing.

He naturally ends up fighting the kids, but really...how do you fight a bunch of little kids?  Plus they are using their emotional whammy jammy on him, and he's right back to being depressed.

Excellent.  As Usual.

Loki: Agent of Asgard #7

Well, Doom has managed with Valeria's help to imprison young Loki, because he is mad that Old Loki has destroyed the earth in the future.  Freyja says that they have to go along with this, because Old Loki makes everything so fabulous for Asgard in the future, that it is worth destroying poor Young Loki and his efforts to change.  Odin has his doubts, and for once I think he is right.

Verity is invisible, and a bit upset, and naturally young Valeria spots her.  I guess that kid really has some issues! She also doesn't look three years old.  But  Verity convinces her to free Loki, while Doom is out fighting off the effects of Red Onslaught's Fear Beam.  So that is why all his subjects were beating each other up!  Magneto apparently killed Red Skull, which released Red Onslaught.

Yeesh.

But anyway, they use Loki's Sword of Truth, because the Truth makes you Free or something.  Doom sees the Truth, and being Doom...sticks to his own version, because...hey, he's Doom.  And then they all decide to team up with Magneto.

I guess this is how it all ties in with the new crossover, where the Villains have to save the world, because the Heroes are too...Good?  It's an interesting twist anyway, and I liked this issue.  I DO wish that they would go back to original artist, because I am less than impressed with Jorge Coelho.   Too scratchy.

But I am having fun with Young Loki.

Ms Marvel #9

Managed to snag the last copy, after completely missing last months issue, which enrages me to no end, since that is when Lockjaw shows up.  So, I 'm a little confused about some of the details, except that her school is being attacked, and her healing factor can't keep up, so she's pretty wiped out.  Fortunately, she ends up being rescued by none other than Medusa, and finds out that she's not a mutant, but an Inhuman.

Whoa.

Her powers are still in flux, but Kamala is a tough little bird, and after being patched up, she goes right back into the fray.  She even ends up saving the kids...except that they are there voluntarily for some reason.

God, I do love this book.  Bright, fun, witty.  Cheerful instead of depressing.  What a concept!

A good week.  A lot of Marvel, which rather surprises me, but I am enjoying the heck out of Marvel's smaller and more quirky books.  DC, could you please take note?

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Oh Wednesday!

I love Wednesdays, I really do.  But it is 80 degrees outside, and it is the middle of October, and this is New England.  I'm not complaining...oh LORD I'm not complaining...but it still feels...odd.  And as a New Englander, I can't help but wonder if we are going to pay for all this warm weather somewhere down the road.

But the new books are coming out today, the breeze is blowing...along with the leaves, and life...for the moment...is good.

Oh...Joy!

After the depression that I have been feeling about the conclusion of Azzarello and Chiang's Wonder Woman, and the beginning of the ...uh...new version of Wonder Woman,  by the Finches,I cannot help but feel a surge of pure joy  at this.

 photo lindacarterwonderwoman_zps40f48628.jpg

Nicola Scott's version of Linda Carter as Wonder Woman.

They are apparently going to be doing a Wonder Woman '77, which I assume would be similar to what they have been doing with the wonderfully zany Batman '66.  There is little enough light and actual...fun in DC comics lately, so I am grabbing whatever I can with both hands.

Huzzah!

Reviews

That's a pithy title if there ever was one.  A small week for me.

Batman #35

So...now we are past Zero Year, and Bruce is suffering from recurrent nightmares.  I can understand that, he has to have seen some pretty weird stuff.  Gotham is rebuilding, which is a good thing.  And then a cloud of gas goes off downtown, but it is nontoxic gas, which is a change from the usual gas attack every Tuesday in Gotham.  Almost...almost as if someone just wants to evacuate the area!

And there is Batman in his Super Bat Suit, fighting off everyone, but he's dreaming, and then he's not and Wonder Woman flies through a window and attacks him. Then everyone on the Justice League attacks him!

Well, this is a fine how-do-you-do.  And he's holding his own, fighting back, until of course Superman shows up, and...is that the Joker at the end?

I love the art by Capullo as always, but I had to confess, are we back in the "present" or are we still in the past when Batman was a rookie?  With all the crossovers, and jumping time lines, it is getting hard to know anymore...or maybe I'm just too stupid.

Interesting, that's for sure.

Green Lantern Corps $35

More New Gods beat up Green Lanterns.  That planet that Highfather used his stolen rings to accelerate their evolution? Well, they all turned into monsters, so out of the kindness of their hearts, the New Gods are exterminating them. The Lanterns find this to be...well...pretty monstrous, but the New Gods babble a lot of pseudo God talk and beat the crap out of them.

Highfather is still looking for Kyle, and his White Ring Power.  To beat Darkseid, who quite frankly, isn't half as horrible as the supposed "Good Guys".

This is...just awful.

I can't stand this plot, I can't stand the various corps being nothing but punching bags.  I can't stand the New Gods being total Wankers.

Yechhh.

Justice League United #5

Well, they are a team now, and we have a nice bit of background for Miyabhin and how she got her powers, and how she gets to fight a Wendigo...oops, Whitago.  Her Dad was a good guy, got taken over by a Wend...er...Whitago and she fights him too.

Oh, and the Legion shows up from the future so that they can murder that little kid, whom J'onn is protecting.

Jerks.

Hawkeye vs Deadpool#l

This continues the story that started last month, with it being Halloween, and it is quite amusing, with the two of them paired up doing their thing.  Kate even shows up!  It's lovely.  I'm not quite so happy about them making Felicia, aka the Black Cat be the one behind all of the mayhem, going so far as to get Typhoid Mary on her side, as they hypnotize various city leaders to do their evil biding...or something.

Seriously, Black Cat?  I understand that she's a bit unhappy at her treatment by Spider-Man, or actually Doc Ock, when he was living in Spider-Man's skin, but this seems to be...extreme.

Other than that caveat however, this is a rather good-natured romp, and fun.  A lot more fun than the Green Lanterns, that's for sure.

And finally,

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #l

So...Archie has taken a rather dark turn lately.  I haven't been reading the books, but I have been reading ABOUT the books, where everyone is a zombie, and stuff.  This is more of the same and it is basically Sabrina's origin, but it certainly ain't the stuff I read and watched as a kid!  What is really cool, and I assume this was a promotion for the various Comic Book Store owners, the cover has my very own beloved Comic
Book Store's name on the artwork!

Matt's Sportscards and Comics, in Enfield, Connecticut, is the name on the building that has a dark and shadowy figure and a crouching teenaged Witch, all in Black and Orange for Halloween. It is a clever concept, and so of course I had to buy it.  And it's a darned good story, so maybe I'll be staying with this!  I want to see what happens!

And Now For Something Completely Different

I give you...

 photo nightcrawlersback_zpsbbc23b2b.jpg

Well...not ALL that different really.  It isn't a Green Lantern butt, but it is a beaufiful backside nevertheless.  And if you changed the red in Kurt's costume to green, it would BE a fabulous Green Lantern uniform!

Oh That's Just Great

Originally I was going to just put up another picture of Hal's Behind, and call it a day, because I was feeling pretty lazy, to be truthful.  Then I went over to Comic Book  Resources, aka Comics Should Be Good, and read the 75 top Moments in Marvel History Countdown feature which has been running for a while.  And I've enjoyed seeing those pivotal moments all along, and we finally..finally get to the final two today.

If you don't want to know the Top Two Greatest Moments in Marvel History, then stop reading here.

Number Two, is the Death of Jean Grey.  Number One, is the Death of Gwen Stacy.

Number Three, incidentally, was the discovery of Captain America's frozen carcase by the Avengers.

So, the rebirth of a beloved iconic figure, and the deaths of two women, are the greatest moments.

I've heard of Fridging of course, but this was a Fridging and an UN-Fridging!

Sheesh!

Stuff I Bought

Well...it was certainly an interesting week.

Batman '66/Green Hornet #5

I know that I am probably betraying my ignorance here, but I never really understood shy the Green Hornet had to pretend to be a Bad Guy.  It doesn't really seem to give him much of an advantage.  But maybe I'm not getting it.

Anyhoo, The Dynamic Duo manage to get out of the latest Death Trap, with ...Science!  I've also always wondered, by the Bad Guys never actually stay around to see to it that Batman and Robin don't escape, but they do seem to have really really short attention spans.

But they do team up again, and the Joker drops a bomb, and very little of it makes sense, and I simply love it.  And the Ty Templeton artwork is sublime as usual.

A whole Heckuva Lot of Fun!

Fairest #30

Actually, this is really just more of Fables, which is fine I guess.  Clara the Dragon is daydreaming, and the the Glamor stones have been stolen, and a mystery has to be solved.  And it is actually solved rather cleverly.  Also, Reynard and his new love are on the lam, and she discovers he is actually a Fox, and oh...the fun that they have!

Also a tad on the ridiculous side, but I enjoyed it.

Gotham Academy #1

I had been reading good things about this book, so I decided to pick it up.  It's certainly interesting, and the art is fun, and it has caught my interest, so I'll be staying with it.  Obviously some really weird things are going on this school, and lord knows who...or what is actually lurking behind the walls.

Gosh, Gotham is a weird town.

Green Lantern/New Gods...Godhead #l

It actually makes more sense if you read this before reading Green Lantern.  I...did not.

Well, the New Gods have been visiting the Source Wall again, and Highfather seems to feel that getting all the rings will somehow defeat Darkseid.  He isn't particularly polite about the way that he goes about getting samples of all these rings, since his feeling is that the Ring Bearers are a bunch of losers anyway.

Then, after killing and robbing, and messing peoples lives up, all the New Gods come back with their rings, and it...doesn't work.

I've always liked the New Gods.  In particular I liked Metron, Orion, Scott Free and Barda.  But I don't like THESE New Gods.  And Orion, who is simply spectacular in Wonder Woman is nothing more than a jerk here. And Metron is a creep.  And Highfather is a creep.  And they took Mogo's ring.  And St. Walkers, although he wasn't using it at the time.

Bleh.

Green Lantern #35

Now the GL's are left with the problem of dealing with poor Mogo.  You would think that they would just give him another ring, and everything would be fine, but that's too complicated for Hal.  Metron pontificates, St. Walker whines some more, Salaak is horrified, and Hal is stupid.  And there is a fight.  And finally, they all seem to notice that yes, Kyle is DEAD, and they mourn him, although they have completely ignored that idea for quite a while.  Of course Kyle isn't dead, but they don't know that.

This is...kinda stupid.  And boring.  And as much as I love the Green Lanterns, I never thought I would be saying that.  I can only assume that after FAR too long, this new crossover will end with Kyle coming back, and...and stuff will happen.

Yeesh.

Justice League #34

The League is dealing with Lex Luthor and his...interesting manner of dealing with problems.  Superman of course isn't happy, and neither is Batman, but Captain Mar....er...Shazaam is happy to go out and fight Gorillas, Cyborg is rebooting, and Wonder Woman is showing Lex that people aren't all that bad, when a little girl gives him a hug and a flower.

Awwww!

Of course, he starts plucking the petals from it later, but that's just Lex.

Oh, and Barry  tries to help Jessica learn how to control her evil Green Lantern Ring.

My favorite part, quite frankly, was Captain Cold.

Thor #1

Well!  I did not see that coming!  But the identity of the new Thor makes perfect sense.

Poor Thor.  I didn't read the previous Watcher storyline, but somehow, Nick Fury whispered something to him, and now he's no longer worthy of Mjollnir.  That seems like a really dickish sort of thing for Nick Fury to do, but it's on a par with how he has been acting lately, according the the latest ret-con.  A shame really, I've always rather liked Nick Fury.

*sigh*

But anyway, poor Thor is coming unglued.  Odin is back, and throwing his weight around.  Odin is always a jerk, but somehow I enjoy his blatant pomposity and stupidity.  Also for some reason, Malekith...I think...has unleashed some really cool Frost Giants on Midgard, and they are destroying an underwater lab built by Roxxon.  So I really can't be sorry, because Roxxon is evil.  EVIL!  And Malekith is just so gleeful.

And never ever mess with a cranky All-Mother.

This was actually good.  I wasn't sure about it all, but I'm glad that I picked it up.

Wonder Woman #34

Finally!  It seems as though this issue has been really late, but I'm glad that it is here.

Diana is slowly bleeding to death, and has a nice little talk with Ares.  Strife is wandering around causing trouble, because that is what she does.  Hera is feeling godly again, and all the Amazons are still fighting the First Born.  Oh, and Hippolyta is alive again!  Sort of.

Milan is back, and Hephaestus has mechanical elephants!  Orion is in there fighting, and he is so much more heroic than in the Green Lantern book.    They need to get little Zeke, the Last Born, onto the throne of Olympus for some reason, but naturally, it isn't going to be easy

God, this is great.  And I love, I simply love Diana's outfit, with her hair done up, and the leather skirt and armor, she looks just fabulous.

This was really good.

One Month and Counting

In exactly one month from today, will begin the demolition and resurrection of our beloved 1850 brick Victorian...and event that has been in the planning stage for YEARS!  So I may be a bit distracted from the mundane world of Comic Books for a while.  But of course, I will still be buying them and reading them, and commenting about them, and all that jazz.

I love old houses, but I have to admit that the upkeep is pretty much constant.  Less than two years ago, we had to completely replace our boiler and hot water, and redo some of the plumbing.  We updated the electricals when we moved in, put on a new roof, and painted and stuff...but still, sometimes things get away from you.  But starting November first, we are going to be gutting our main bathroom, and putting in a new walk-in shower instead of that goddamn bathtub with the crappy sliding doors that I stub my toe on daily, new toilets in all the bathrooms, new sinks, and a whole new kitchen instead of the 1970's era model, with the exactly two feet of counterspace.  Granted, it has a huge butler's pantry and wainscoting and such, but still!

I'm giddy, I tells ya.

I'm even giddier about that fact that the Future's End crossovers for the month of September is finally...FINALLY, over!  Man, that was pretty terrible.  So I am looking forward to today's offerings with great anticipation.

But still...a new stove, that actually works!
