Oh That's Just Great

Originally I was going to just put up another picture of Hal's Behind, and call it a day, because I was feeling pretty lazy, to be truthful.  Then I went over to Comic Book  Resources, aka Comics Should Be Good, and read the 75 top Moments in Marvel History Countdown feature which has been running for a while.  And I've enjoyed seeing those pivotal moments all along, and we finally..finally get to the final two today.

If you don't want to know the Top Two Greatest Moments in Marvel History, then stop reading here.

Number Two, is the Death of Jean Grey.  Number One, is the Death of Gwen Stacy.

Number Three, incidentally, was the discovery of Captain America's frozen carcase by the Avengers.

So, the rebirth of a beloved iconic figure, and the deaths of two women, are the greatest moments.

I've heard of Fridging of course, but this was a Fridging and an UN-Fridging!

Sheesh!

First, great point about "unfridging" missed that myself.

Second. Technically it isn't "greatest moments" its "most memorable." That's still an excessively sad comment on the fandom. Considering superheros are based in being inspirational and uplifting its depressing that most people rank deaths at what they remember when thinking about comics. Most of my votes would have had impressive swells of classical music under them. (like Carmina Burana was used in Excalibur)

Jeff, you are absolutely correct, not the "greatest", but the most memorable. I was in too big of a snit I guess.

In Gwen's case it was the most textbook example of a fridging. At least Jean/Phoenix choice her ending and was heroic in its own way. Plus she's Phoenix so she can come back. I tend to find a lot of these list to be way off base anyway. Personally I found Kravens' Last hunt more memorable as it dealt with Kravens' obsessive madness and Newly weds Peter/MJs' devotion to each other.

Erin, you're right of course. At least Jean went out in style.

Over and Over and Over.
