And the Art Chores on Green Lantern...

...will be handled by none other than Doug Mahnke! Woohoo!

I am going to miss Ivan Reis terribly, he is such an elegant artist. But if he has to leave, then I am perfectly happy having Doug Mahnke in his place. Besides, I think that his and Pat Gleason's styles will compliment each other perfectly.

Green Lanterns

As you can see, Green Lantern is going to be in some pretty good hands. And look, Kyle has his old floppy hair back! I LOVE Kyle's floppy hair. Mr. Mahnke has the advantage of being pretty fast and efficient for a penciler as well, so perhaps some of the delay issues that plagued GL will be a thing of the past. He has a wonderful sense of design, he can layout a page like nobody's business, and he has a bit of a quirkiness that I enjoy.

I'm glad that DC is taking care of Green Lantern for all of us, with two of the best writers and some of the best artists. There is no better combination more pleasing to my heart than a good story AND good art.

Huzzah!

Mahnke is a great choice for Green Lantern! He's got a great eye for design and detail, packs a ton of personality into characters and has got a style unique from anyone else. Plus, he rocked that last issue of Final Crisis, so this is exciting news!

This is great news! Mahnke might be my favorite comic book artist. This really made my day. I love Patrick Gleason too, so lets hope he stays on GLC for a long, long time.

I agree with Sea--Ivan Reis will be missed, but I definitely don't mind Mahnke's work here!

I have a random GL question for the more informed among you--what is with the ring-manifested floating emblems above the normal chest emblem on the costume? Was there ever an explained reason for that, or is it just cause it looks cool in the art?

Pete -- That whole thing started in GL: Rebirth. Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver used it as kind of a combination police badge/police light, and the usage has been commonplace ever since.

Ooh, lovely! I'm still going to miss Ivan, too, but if that pic there is an indication of how Mahnke portrays Green Lanterns, I think we'll be in good hands. Looks like he's got a pretty good feel for Guy, anyway, and Soranik is looking particularly gorgeous.

I'm not so sure about Mahnke as the GL artist. I mean... take a look at that image... not a single GL butt in the bunch! I mean... Yat is showing a little side-butt, but does that really count?

He's already failed the primary GL-artist test.

Oooh, pretty picture (though Moriarty's right, an tradition-busting lack of arse) now I have to choose btween this and the Dustin Nguyen chibi-Gotham as my new desktop pic.

Damn talented artist types.

I can't work out how else to contact you, but you need to know this! http://timesonline.typepad.com/blockbuster_buzz/2009/03/green-lantern-m.html

While I deplore the lack of Green Lantern butts, I must admit, that as an introduction, usually, the artist has the characters facing foreward.

But wouldn't it be a hoot someday, if he did a huge group shot, and it was from behind?

I saw Rot Lop Fan, and just gave a chortle of delight.

Who's the big rocky dude on the far right? I see an easy Heroclix custom there....

I believe that is H'onnu(?) although I am not sure if I am spelling it correctly. One of the formerly "lost" Lanterns, and a pretty cool character. Hangs out with Graf Toren a lot. Whom, you will also see.

Hunh. With the resurgence of the charactonym in Green Lantern (Atrocitus, Arkillo, etc) I was expecting him to be A'sz Folt or G'rnyt or something.

I agree with this sentiment 100%.

Doug Mahnke and Pat Gleason have the same balance of polish and grit in their artwork. It sounds like an oxymoron, but they share a knack for making characters look smooth and shiny on the surface, yet still rough and gritty 'round the edges, ...at the same time.

Based on that sample spread, I think it's safe to say that Mr. Mahnke will keep all our favorite gals and blokes in the GLC look dirty/sexy/pretty, and though it may sound shallow, I'd be telling a lie if I said that wasn't important to me. ;-)

Speaking of charactonyms, I just found out about the baby-stealing Yellow Lantern. Kryb. No, really. Kryb. Honest to Rao, I haven't seen a charactonym so obvious and hokey since...since...no, I've never seen a charactonym that obvious and hokey! Not even B'Nee and C'Cil of the Imperial Guard were that bad! What the hell's next? A greedy Orange Lantern named Th'r'ztn-Houl-3? A free-love embracing Violet Lantern called G'Noriyya? A child-molesting Yellow Lantern named Rahblo?
