It is... really very good, and MUCH funnier than the first two outings. Hemsworth gets a chance to show off his comedic chops, and does an excellent job of still being a bit of a boorish oaf, but he is a bit more self aware this time, which is nice. Tom Huddleston as Loki does his usual superlative performance, and I actually ended up liking Odin... for a change!

Valkyrie is fabulous, the Grandmaster is menacing AND hilarious, and it is just a whole lot of fun. Heal is certainly nobody to mess with, and the whole glorious mess is a wonderful homage to Jack Kirby.

I don't want to go into any more detail for those who haven't seen it yet, but it is well worth your time.

Woot!!!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-13007555531801696682017-10-16T14:20:00.001-07:002017-10-16T14:22:10.423-07:00What Is Up With Google?I am an old lady, and I freely admit that I only have a tenuous grasp of how the internets actually work. But all of a sudden on both Erin and Shelly's blogs, I can no longer comment! I have tried a dozen times, and using Google, and nothing happens. I have put in my blog name, my e-mail address and danced the hokey pokey... and zip!

Argh!

What am I doing wrong?

First they took all my pictures off of photobucket, now they are screwing around with being able to comment.

It is all Trump's fault.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-52283761972880931042017-10-04T12:24:00.000-07:002017-10-04T12:25:34.540-07:00Oh the Agony!Gah!

So... our telephone, television and internet all exploded last Sunday evening. Yes, I do have a land line, I'm old after all. I also have a cell phone so there wasn't a problem, and I haven't really been watching much television lately... but losing the WiFi?

That was a problem!

But hey, this time it only took the cable company three days to fix everything instead of nine!

Woohoo!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com29tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-34558915072163480982017-09-25T12:20:00.000-07:002017-09-25T12:20:03.500-07:00The Cool FactorI... used to be cool. I got married and had kids, which certainly reduces One's coolness, but then I was the mom who read comic books and drew all my kid's friends pictures of Nightcrawler and Hal Jordan, so I still retainers a certain... something that might be described as cool.

At work I am the only one in the office who can explain the Marvel movies, or at least rhapsodize mutually over them.

But last night I did alas, lose whatever meager remnants of cool that I ever did possess. Somehow, whilst channel surfing, my Sweet Babboo, discovered an old episode of...Hee Haw. I NEVER watched the show as a kid, although I had unfortunately heard of it. It is just so... corny. And God save me, we watched it in a combination of horror and bemusement, and then I... laughed at one of he terrible jokes.

I am not proud of this.

I think I will have to go and binge watch some John Oliver in order to retain my liberal elite credentials.

But as God is my witness...I laughed.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-17027952950467896462017-09-06T14:27:00.000-07:002017-09-06T14:27:06.469-07:00Is It A Full Moon?As I may have mentioned, I work part time for a Tire Company, and answer the telephone as part of my duties. As is typical when dealing with the Public, I get the usual number of... odd calls.

Some Really odd calls.

I think perhaps Today's may have broken the record, and I am including the time a young lady didn't pay any attention to my answering with the NAME of my business, and thought it was he plastic surgeon's office and proceeded to complain about her breast implants.

This time, a gentleman by name of Earl, called and proceeded to tell me, that he used to live in Holyoke, Mass., but now lives in Ohio, but a buddy of his told him that my TIRE company (owned by Doug and Dinsdale AKA the Pirhanna Brothers) could "help him out".

See, there was this guy, who is a Vet, but he lost his legs, and got bitten by a really Huge spider, and could we send him to Ohio to stay with Earl?

I... was slightly flabbergasted. I did ask him gently, if he realized this was a TIRE store, and he got a little cranky, and did rattle off our address. Then I explained that I really did not know who to direct him to, and he burst into tears and slammed down the phone. I don't know if I have been royally pranked, or if poor Earl is just really really confused.

Then another customer accosted me at the copier and proceeded to tell me all about her vacation, and the deals she got, and how she is going back again, and apparently most of her life's story. I had never seen this woman in my life, but sadly, this is not the first time a total stranger has picked me at random as a repository for whatever soap opera he or she is experiencing. I guess I just have one of those trustworthy sort of faces.

Haw!

Little do they know!

I would love to know if anyone has a similar tale.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-90779423978508536072017-08-19T06:39:00.000-07:002017-08-19T06:39:01.435-07:00Woohoooooo!Finally!

Some GOOD news from comicbookdom!

I just found out that Mark Ward and Chris Samnee are going to helm the new Captain America book, following the interminable evil Cap/Secret Empire disaster. If anyone can write and draw a good book, it those two gentlemen.

I have been trying with all my might to avoid this summer's gawdawful crossover with an evil Cap as much as possible, but as usual, it isn't easy. They blew up Las Vegas for heaven's sake! Marvel wanted comic book store employees to wear Hydra T-shirts... which is just a tad problematic, since Hydra is a Nazi organization, and we have had to deal with Neo-Nazis waaaaaay too much lately.

Evil CP is a really really terrible idea, and while I was pretty sure that in the way of comic books, the status quo was going to be reset, I didn't know how they were going to pull it off. At this point, if Steve is in the shower and somebody sighs in relief, and it was all just a dream, I would be satisfied. I think there are... two Caps wandering around at the moment, or something?

Anyhoo.

I am happy.

And I am even happier that I didn't waste my money on buying this putrescent waste of a character.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-24378889127944743172017-08-12T06:18:00.000-07:002017-08-12T06:18:46.164-07:00What?I know it seems that all I do lately is piss and moan about my comics. Probably because all I do lately IS to piss and moan about my comics!

Mighty Thor was decent, although making Volstagg yet another version of Thor is just... weird. Jane did finally confess to original Thor, that she is the new Thor, and he was awfully pussy about it. Squirrel Girl continues to be insanely delightful, and is probably the main reason I find the strength to stagger onto my comic book store.

Ms. Marvel is also fabulous. Man... Jersey is a tough place! Almost worse than New York!

I have been enjoying the heck out of Champions... until this issue. I have also been trying to avoid the whole Hydra/Evil Cap debacle as much as possible, but every once in a while, one sneaks in, and I opened up this issue to find that somehow Las Vegas had been bombed and Hydra has taken over, and the various ways that people were gruesomely murdered.

Not... really my cup of tea. The current state of world affairs is already terrifying...I don't need more of it in my formerly light-hearted hobby. Yes, super heroes and villains blow things up on a daily basis... but not Las Vegas, man!

I couldn't find Saga, which really toasted my buns.

I didn't even pick up Green Lantern Corps because it is practically unreadable.

I think I will go and read my old JLI's. They never let me down.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-47277979869613839432017-08-04T07:20:00.001-07:002017-08-04T07:20:21.885-07:00I Need My Bat Bat!So... last night I am sound asleep about one AM, when my son rushes into my room babbling that there is a flying rodent downstairs... in other words, a bat has somehow managed to get into the house.

*sigh*

It is an old house, this usually happens at least once a summer, although it has actually been a few since the last time. For some reason, I am the resident Bat patrol. I used to use a giant yellow plastic shuffle bat, nowadays I just use a broom, with which I can usually give it a good smack mid-air, and then clamp a box or coffee can over it, and take it outside. I don't kill them, but I probably give them quite the headache.

Except... last night, I was only able to graze the little bigger a few times... and then he or she UPS and DISAPPEARS! So... as of this morning I am very cautiously... poking around, and still haven't found it. I am reading the newspaper and my tablet, rather expecting it to come swooping down any minute. I really need a super... or even not-so-super hero right about now.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-64108629541790477852017-08-01T12:05:00.002-07:002017-08-01T12:05:58.198-07:00I Am GobsmackedI can hardly believe that I am typing this... but I have given up on reading Green Lantern Corps.

I almost feel as though there should be an vaguely apocalyptic rumble or something.

I started this ridiculous blog in September of 2006, so I have been at this for... well, quite a while. And while I expressed my love of a LOT of comics, Green Lanterns (and their butts) were the particular focus of my attention. I gobbled up back issues, I chortled over scans of Hal getting hit in the head. I reveled in Guy's antics in the JLI. I swooned over all those Gil Kane ads shots. I enjoyed the heck out of Geoff Johns adoration of Hal.

Good times, good times.

But lately... it has been something of a chore to even READ the Green Lantern books. The plots have been... humdrum, to say the least. The art has been... okay, I guess. Characterization and humor have more or less disappeared. Guy is still the best, but he has barely been used.

It isn't just the Green Lanterns. I have dropped a TON of books lately. I am hardly reading any DC at all, which rather breaks my heart, but I haven't quite forgiven them for dumping most of my favorite characters. I am only reading the more quirky books at Marvel... chiefly Squirrel Girl, and Ms. marvel and Champions, and Thor. Making Captain America a Hydra Agent pretty much ruined my summer.

So...i am still hanging in there, and posting occasionally... but I sure am depressed.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-50106595201901129192017-07-23T18:15:00.004-07:002017-07-23T18:15:40.391-07:00Woot!Well... the new trailer for Thor:Ragnarok just came out.

SQUEE!

That is all.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-40334158522256069042017-07-15T15:12:00.001-07:002017-07-15T15:12:35.158-07:00And Speaking of Being Snookered...!<strike>I am getting the strangest notifications from my Photobucket account lately. I also just noticed that my banner seems to have mysteriously vanished. They want me to authorize opening my account up to third person parties... or something. What does that even mean?</strike>
<strike></strike>
<strike>I haven't been using it lately, because my old computer is mostly kerflunked, and I have been using my tablet instead. Apparently this has made them pussy, but I don't want some other person accessing my pictures. Granted, they are mostly of Guy, but still!</strike>
<strike></strike>
<strike>Why is the internet so confusing?</strike>SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-70790695664957221692017-07-13T07:09:00.001-07:002017-07-13T07:09:36.172-07:00I've Been Snookered!Oh when will I ever learn? Went to the Comic Book store yesterday to pick up my books...a whole lot fewer books than I used to get... when lo and behold, there was a Ragnarok prelude comic, with a photo of Mark Ruffalo on the cover !

Now I have been enjoying the heck out of the Marvel movies, and I am just dying to see the new Thor:Ragnarok movie in November, so of course I eagerly snatched it up.

Well...I really should have flipped through it first, because there wasn't a darned thing about the movie, it was just a very poorly drawn and written rehash of the Hulk movies, which I have never seen.

No Hela, no Thor, no Odin...no Loki.

Gotterdamerung!

Fortunately I also found Squirrel Girl, which got me off the ledge...but still!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-83696116043442280422017-06-22T06:50:00.000-07:002017-06-22T06:50:14.559-07:00Feeling CrankyI know, I know... yet another whiny post. But I have been checking out some of the previews for DC and Marvel... and it looks as though we are in for another summer of darkness. I think... that the whole Captain America and Hydra lunacy is going to end... thank god... but it still looks pretty dreadful. And DC has dark Batman or something going on. I honestly gave up after skimming through the storylines, because it was just too depressing.

I have dropped a TON of books lately, and haven't been all that excited about the ones that I DO read... as you can all tell from the lack of reviews. I still keep taking home Green Lantern Corps, hoping that maybe some scintilla of plot will appear, but so far it just keeps dully slogging along. It is... adequate, but no more than that.

Squirrel Girl, Saga and Ms. Marvel continue to delight, and I have been enjoying Doctor Strange, although I was disappointed with the absence of Bachelor as the artist. He has such a knack for the bizarre, and the cheerful tones of the coloring made it all delightfully surreal... which fits a Doctor Strange book to a tee. The new artist is heavy on the blacks and much less whimsical, and now the colors are all gray and gloomy, so a lot of the charm is gone.

The Champions are still fabulous though. And Mighty Thor is pretty great... but it needs more Loki. Original Thor has finally discovered that Jane Foster is the new Thor and he's being a real jerk about it. Oh, and Voltage is now War Thor. It is... complicated.

Oddly enough, I rather like the new Nick Fury book. It is almost as if Stefano got caught in a crayon factory explosion, but it is... quirky, and I do enjoy quirky.

So I think I will continue to stay far far away from any crossovers as much as is humanly possible. I heard that DC had gone through yet ANOTHER rebirthing, and someone old favorites are back...LOVE Wally... but it may be too little too late.

Sorry to be so cranky. I just want my comics to be good again.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-61032712451579094592017-06-19T12:00:00.001-07:002017-06-19T12:00:25.168-07:00I'm Being Stalked!I received the weirdest e-mail yesterday. It was from Cupid something... an on-line dating service as far as I can tell, wishing me a happy birthday, and then saying that they could see I was in a relationship so they wouldn't be sending me any choices... for now.

What the hell?

Since I have been happily married for 39 years, it's nice that they aren't signing me up but how the heck did they even FIND me? I am not on Facebook or any other form of social media. But then I noticed they called me Sallyp, which I only use on my blog.

So... they like comics?

Or they figure I have a butt fetish.

Which of course I DO... but still... it's a bit on the creepy side.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-45442348122938900192017-06-11T10:16:00.001-07:002017-06-15T09:50:09.947-07:00DagnabitWell, now I am just depressed. Adam West has died at the age of 88, and I am sad. I was eight years old when Batman débuted on television... in glorious black and white, at least on OUR TV, and I was enthralled. My father thought it was hilarious, my mother thought it was ridiculous. I thought it was just fabulous... and I have never changed my opinion.

Although it did establish the tradition of using "Biff"..." Bam"..."Pow" whenever the media feels the need to comment on comic-related news, which does have a way of getting old, but still. It was a silly show, but it was MY silly show! Adam West WAS Batman, and Ward was Robin, and by god, Julie Newmar was Catwoman. Frank Gorshin is still the best Riddler too.

And oh... the guest star villains... all so campy and really it was a forerunner of the Simpsons, as it was a coup to be the villain of the week for a LOT of pretty famous actors and actresses. King Tut the Bookworm, Marsha, Queen of Diamonds... the list goes on and on.

Adam West was a fine actor... to be able to play such utter foolishness completely straight is not an easy task. And so I will miss him.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-43220331486034177502017-04-29T06:52:00.000-07:002017-04-29T06:52:03.228-07:00Oh MarvelSo I finally broke down and actually read all my books from the past couple of weeks, and by Jove they were pretty darned good! Which makes Marvel's idiocy about Hydra and Captain America even more infuriating. How can a company that is creating such fabulous books as Ms. Marvel, Doctor Strange, Thor and Squirrel Girl, also coming up with such utter drivel as Cap being evil?

And not apparently, under a spell, or mind control either. He was just always evil.

Right.

Sometimes retcons work. This... is not one of those times. And blaming more diversity in your books for the plummeting sales is cowardly and disingenuous at best. I know I am not buying this crap, because I am fond of Cap, and I don't think Nazis are good except as punching bags. Or as talking dinosaurs... that works too. Marvel has just been astonishingly tone-deaf y about this whole Hydra thing, and I am quite disgusted.

It was the last issue of Hellcat, which made me sad, but it was funny and silly, and had a happy ending, so there are worse ways to go I suppose.

The thing with the evil internet was resolved nicely in Ms Marvel. Not my favorite story line, but still head and shoulders above a lot of books.

More about Rip Hunter, who has gone back... or ahead... in time to save the Green Lantern Corps. Hal is an utter jackals... even more so than usual. When Kyle says that Rip couldn't have made his own ring, Hal preens and just can't resist pointing out that HE can ! Oh Hal. John pontificates, Kyle is busy hitting on Soranik, because he apparently forgot how they broke up in the first place, and there is a sad lack of Guy.

Guy was tight with Booster. Would he have known who Rip was, I wonder?

Doctor Strange was fabulous. Damn I do like this book. Wong is saved. The good Doctor is still arrogant, but comes through when the chips are down, and they will need a new fridge.

Thor and assorted Aesir deities all work together to defeat the Shi'ar God's... and bot howdy, do THOSE two have an inflated opinion of themselves! They manage to piss off their own worshippers with their hubris, but also manage to summon the Phoenix, which is never a good thing. good stuff as usual, and gosh, the art is so pretty.

Arches was great as always, and I am STILL in shock over typing those words.

And finally, I picked up the new Nick Fury book out of curiosity... and liked it! The artist seems to be channeling Stefano, and pulling it off quite well. It was fast paced, bright, and had lots of explosions. Not bad at all!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-47639410453967139412017-04-20T16:28:00.001-07:002017-04-20T16:28:31.564-07:00Oh Sweet SpringThe daffodils are blooming, the leaves are budding... and we are of course doing yard work in preparation for warm weather.

Which is why I am currently covered in poison ivy. In my defense, I had no idea that there were vines mixed in with the leaves in the flower bed, and... and I am just one itchy mess.

Damn this would be the perfect weapon for a super villain!

"scratch, scratch"SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-59561399619134346412017-04-11T15:13:00.002-07:002017-04-11T15:13:52.788-07:00Trailer for RagnarokBy Odin's Ravens! I just saw the new trailer for the third Thor movie, Ragnarok, which comes out on November... and I have to admit to being fairly well blown away.

I absolutely loved the first Thor movie and the Avengers, which I also like to call Loki I and II. Thor, the Dark World... not so much, mainly because Odin and Thor were such douches in it. But this one... looks pretty amazing so far. Although, it could use more Loki.

I would have it here except I don't know how, but it IS on U-Tube, and it is awesome. Oh, and the Hulk, Valkyrie and Hela are all pretty awesome as well.

I have to admit that I have been enjoying the Marvel movies so much more than the DC one, although Gal Godot as Wonder Woman does look amazing. I am dying to see the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and apparently they have started filming Infinity War as well. I wonder if they had any idea what they were starting way back when?

Woot!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-24117099207607337962017-04-03T12:36:00.001-07:002017-04-03T12:36:11.750-07:00Marvel and DiversitySo... Marvel's apparent slump in sales is because telling stories about women, teens and non-white males is chasing away readers. Or something.

Seriously?

I can only speak of my own reading habits, but it was because of those fun quirky books that I came slithering back to the Marvel side of the aisle, after having been chased away by the horror of Civil War I. Frankly I adore Ms Marvel, and Squirrel Girl and Hellcat, and the Champions, and Groot and Howard the Duck. And the Young Avengers, whom I still miss terribly.

You know what I don't read? All those damn, never-ending crossovers and "Events". Civil War, part deaux was awful... and pointless. I love Captain America, but I Will Not Read about him as a secret Hydra Agent, because that is just a bloody stupid idea. I also don't need twelve Avenger books. I like the Avengers, but that's just insane.

The Thor books are good. Need more Loki though.

Here's a thought Marvel. Get some good writers (which you have) and pair them up with some good artists (which you also have) and let them tell the tales that they wish to tell about their characters WITHOUT having to suborn their ideas to yet another gawdawful Twelve Issue Crossover!

Oh, and maybe stop raising the price by 50% every few months as well. Couldn't hurt.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-31960622342148316922017-03-22T13:16:00.001-07:002017-03-22T13:16:32.207-07:00I Have New Books!I couldn't go to the Comic Book store last week because of the blizzard, so finally I wandered in today, and managed to get Hellcat, Thor, the Unworthy Thor, and Green Lantern Corps... and they were pretty darned good.

I really have been in a bit of a funk lately with my books, and I suppose it is high time that I shook myself off, and started paying attention.

I have been enjoying the heck out of Hellcat, because it is silly and funny, and just so... cute! So naturally I am devastated that it is ending after issue 17.

Dammit.

Oh, great Comics God, please don't take away Squirrel Girl or Ms Marvel!

In the Unworthy Thor we FINALLY find out what it was that the Watcher whispered to Thor on the moon that turned him unworthy. I have to say... really? He really can be SUCH a drama queen. Loki would have laughed his ads off. But Odenton does save Old Asgard, pies off the Collector, and save Thor the Helhound. Oh, and Help shows up and winds up snagging Thanks. Eeww.

In Mighty Thor, she is still fighting with the Shi'ar gods, and boy howdy, are THEY a pair of complete assholes! Their little godly competition is starting to get out of hand however, as the rest of the Aesir show up and beat up Gladiator and company. Oh, and speaking of Loki, he maaaay have had a little something to do with starting the whole thing, but I get the distinct impression he's not really all that happy with having to hang out with Malekith, so I am assuming he has a long game in hand.

And finally, the Green Lanterns who seem to have grabbed my interest again. Sinestromis dead... at least at the moment, and the remaining Yellow corps are supposedly teaming up with the Green Lanterns. Not all of them are happy about this, so last issue Guy, went off and took on Arkillo...alone and sans his ring. And in typical Guy fashion, he cleaned his clock.

Oh Guy.

Meanwhile Kyle is back and so is Hal... as pompous as ever, and even Saint Walker. Ganthet and Said try to convince poor Kyle to bring back the dead, but even with Saint Walkers help, his white ring just turns back into the constituent colors, and whoa... Kyle doesn't care because he is now in his old costume... the asymmetrical one with all the black. Dang it, I LOVED that costume!

It is never really made particularly clear WHY Ganthet and Said thought bringing back the dead was a good idea, but they seem to be jiggy with it anyway.

Whew!

I... feel refreshed!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-72779267395783435042017-02-24T09:29:00.001-08:002017-02-24T09:29:52.542-08:00Woot!I just got back from the bookstore with the new Neil Garman book on Norse Mythology, and I a as happy as a clam. I am also posting from my tablet instead of my regular computer which is doing its very best to die. Gah!

I have done some serious cutting back of comic books lately... just still feeling a bit lackadaisical. I must be getting jaded in my old age or something. But the new Green Lantern Corps books has lots and lots of Guy in it, who steals Space Cabbie's taxi and takes on Arkillo, so that's... actually... pretty fabulous. Champions and Nova are also pretty darned good, I really like Cosmo, the telepathic Russian space dog.

Is it me, or has Marvel been doing a bang up job of creating wonderful animal characters lately, from Pizza Dog, to Mew, and Squirrel Girl's squirrel, and now Cosmo? I always liked Lockheed too, but haven't seen him in ages. Lockjaw is okay, but I really can't stand the Inhumane, so there.

I finally saw Deadpool...or at least half of Deadpool on cable and boy howdy is it violent! And hilarious!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-50028162700598046452017-02-09T18:10:00.001-08:002017-02-09T18:10:16.454-08:00Snowed InWell...a genuine old-fashioned Nor'easter has been sweeping through New England, and they have more or less shut down practically the whole state. I am sitting in front of a nice fire in the fireplace with a mug of hot chocolate and new comic books on my hands... and feeling very nice indeed. Because I am not shoveling or trying to drive!

And then we actually got Thunder Snow! Thunder in the middle of a blizzard, which naturally makes me think of Thor and Loki fighting, which would be pretty cool actually.

There are worse ways to spend a Thursday.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-39559370073473627722017-02-04T06:40:00.001-08:002017-02-04T06:40:52.047-08:00MehAs you may have noticed, I haven't been posting much lately. Still in the doldrums and still trying to fight of a ferocious cold that I have had for almost two weeks... and it is just hanging on and on and on...!

Bleh.

In fact, I didn't even GO to the comic book store on Wednesday because there were only two books that I wanted, and it seemed like a bit of a chore.

It's not that I don't love my books... it's just that they... and I are seemingly in a bit of a rut.

Take my beloved Green Lanterns. Too much of Hal bloviating, and too little of Guy being awesome. It is nice to have Kyle, Ganthet and Sayd back, but this past issue was just an old bird-headed lady telling her grandchildren a bedtime story about how amaaaaazing all the Green Lanterns are. Which is actually not a bad premise if she had a specific tale at hand as opposed to..." Oh Gad, they're just so fabulous!"

Saga continues to actually BE fabulous, and consistently continues to break my heart. Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel and Hellcat are probably my favorite Fun books, and Thor is great, but needs more Loki. Champions is a hoot, and I am getting very invested in Nova, which is not a thing I ever thought I would say.

So... what books are grabbing YOU?SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-35846985125220382882017-01-20T09:05:00.000-08:002017-01-20T09:05:29.492-08:00ArmageddonI was thinking about putting up my reviews, and lamenting the fact that I forgot to pick up Patsy Walker: Hellcat for some odd reason, but it is Inauguration day and I am just too damned depressed.SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34168978.post-49501655586589146182017-01-12T08:01:00.001-08:002017-01-12T08:01:30.427-08:00Finally...Some ReviewsI can't really explain why I am doing two weeks worth of reviews at once, other than I am really really lazy.

Green Lantern Corps#12

Well, this is a bundle of green and yellow and orange fun! The Green Lanterns and the Sinestro Corps fight against Larfleeze and Brainiac, and are joined by none other than Hal and Kyle and Ganthet and Sayd. It is drawn by Van Sciver, who does his usual rather epic job,and it is all fairly standard Super Hero/Green Lantern stuff...but dammit, I enjoyed it. John actually does leadership stuff, Guy hits things, Soranik is smart, Hal hits things, and Kyle is useful.

It's...nice in a comforting old-school sort of way.

Wonder Woman #14

Well, Ares shows up, and he's apparently behind the terrorists, but Diana does her awesome thing, and the art is just senSATional, and Steve is very very pretty. It's fabulous as usual.

The Champions #4

Gosh, I do love these crazy kids. They are still getting used to one another, and end up crashing over the ocean, but their mad skills save them, but they are kidnapped by some Atlanteans, and they all use their brains as well as their brawn to get out of it, and...oh, I do love this book. I still miss the Young Avengers, but this is a worthwhile successor.

Hawkeye #2

Kate, as usual is a little over her head, and leaps before she looks, but that's her style. Mikka has been kidnapped, and the stalkers are being...influenced, and there is a mass meeting of mean frat boys or something, and I am pretty sure that Madame Masque has something to do with it, but the art is great, and it's the usual good stuff from Kelly Thompson

Ms. Marvel #14

Kamala participates in some sort of on-line role-playing group. As an old person, I freely admit that I know NOTHING about this, except what I have heard from my kids and picked up here and there. One of the avatars (is that the correct word?) knows something he or she shouldn't, and Kamala does a little on-line investigating but someone has been hacked and someone has been attacked, and it is all the usual Ms. Marvel goodness.

I am so glad that there is actually some fallout from what happened with Civil War. Is that over yet? Carol is gone and Bruno is gone, and she misses them. Usually someone dies or leaves in a storyline and nobody ever mentions them again, until they are resurrected by the next writer. So...again, kudos.

Nova #2

I have never ever read Nova before, considering it a pale copy of the Green Lantern Corps, but hey, this is...pretty good! I like Sam from the Champions and the Avengers before that, and I loved his family party. It is almost like having Jaime Reyes back, except it is Marvel and not DC. But THIS was how Jaime/Blue Beetle should have been written!

I don't know a lot about Rich, but I like him too. And, frankly, Cosmo the Soviet Space Dog is an AWESOME character! Nice to see them back at Knowhere, and the heartfelt reception they get is also nice.

This is a really good book.

Squirrel Girl #16

It's Doreen's 20th Birthday, and she's having a party! With Iron Man, and Thor and Loki and all her buddies, and we learn about her history, and her first birthday party and first fight, and oh...it is lovely.

Loki's present is the best of course.

The Mighty Thor #15

Well, for some reason, Gladiator of the Shiar shows up on Asgard, beats up Heimdall and kidnaps Thor. We don't really know why, but I am sure that there is a reason. Cul is a jerk as usual. Odin doesn't show up, and why should he? No Loki either, which is always a shame. He was probably at Doreen's Birthday party.

Frankly, I don't really like the jerks from Shiar all that much. Is Lilandra even around any more? Guess we'll find out.

The Unworthy Thor #3

And speaking of jerks,Not- Thor is still having behavioral problems. He's still imprisoned by the Collector, and trying to pick up the other-worldly version of his hammer. Beta Ray Bill is there, and tries to help, but Not-Thor beats him up a bit. A lot of the problem is that Gorr is still in Not-Thor's head, and messing with him.

You know who does show up? Thori, Loki's little Hel-Hound, all grown up, and still as cranky as ever! I love Thori! Maybe I just have a thing for talking dogs or something. Marvel seems to have a thing for dog sidekicks lately, and that is a trend that I can definitely get behind. Also Toothgnasher, one of Not-Thor's goats is here too. With a Hel Hound and a giant Goat on your side, how can you lose?

This is...pretty good actually.

Not a clunker in the bunch! That's how I like my comics!SallyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.com5
